The transportation sector, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), faces a major challenge: the transition to cleaner vehicles, such as those powered by electricity, hydrogen or natural gas, is often too costly. For these companies, the purchase of new vehicles is unaffordable, while there are few cost-effective and viable solutions for converting their existing diesel vehicles. This situation is becoming increasingly pressing in the context of European climate targets, which require drastic reductions in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and pollutants such as nitrogen oxides (NOx) and fine particulates.

CRMT has developed the BLUESKY retrofit kit, an innovative solution for converting diesel vehicles to run on renewable fuels such as hydrogen and biomethane. Recognized by the European Union, the project was awarded the Label of Excellence in May 2019. Since then, CRMT has refined its approach to aim for an ambitious goal: the total elimination of fossil fuels, by promoting the use of renewable energies. The BLUESKY kit includes an engine control unit specifically designed for renewable gases, the result of extensive testing in ISC and RDE cycles carried out on road vehicles. In addition to engine conversion, the kit includes the engineering required to modify gaseous fuel storage systems and components to ensure optimum integration.

BLUESKY stands out for its ability to make diesel vehicle conversion accessible at a competitive cost, accelerating the transition to greener transport. By offering a fast, efficient solution, BLUESKY not only makes it possible to significantly reduce GHG emissions and pollutants from transport, but also to meet the requirements of the European Green Deal. Thanks to this technology, thousands of companies will be able to comply with new environmental regulations, while reducing long-term dependence on fossil fuels, particularly diesel.
